LG has now taken it a step further and released the LG DualUp Monitor, model number 28Q780, which is the world’s first 16:18 aspect ratio display. New monitors with other aspect ratios beyond the usual 16:9 are being introduced into the market these days.
According to LG, it has a 2,000:1 contrast ratio, but the LG 27GN950-B, which tops PC Gamer ranking as the best gaming monitor of the year, has a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. It even has a detachable auto calibration sensor to keep the colours accurate. This, paired with LG’s first Nano IPS Black screen, which should help with the darker tones, could make for a very attractive display. However, there is no indication of the refresh rate at this time.

Two HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, one USB-C port for video, and up to 96 watts of power delivery for your laptop are all supported by the screen. Two USB-A ports make it easier to connect accessories.
There’s also a mobile-style auto-brightness detector, which is useful, as well as two 7-watt speakers, which aren’t. LG hasn’t revealed the price of the DualUp display when it goes on sale next year, but you can expect to pay a premium for the unique panel shape and resolution.
According to The Verge, LG hasn’t said how much the DualUp will cost, but it isn’t the only new display the company is announcing today. There’s also the UltraFine 4K 32-inch monitor. This one has a 16:9 aspect ratio, but LG is touting its “first Nano IPS Black panel,” which can produce “realistic and nuanced black tones,” according to LG.
With a peak brightness of 400 nits, the UltraFine is a little brighter than the DualUp, and it also offers a 2000:1 contrast ratio versus the 1,000:1 of the more unusual display. When editing photographs or video or working on graphic design, LG adds a self-calibration sensor to ensure you’re viewing true colour tones.
