Bertone had almost disappeared in 2014 when it was declared bankrupt. In 2016, it was sold to Akka Italia of Collegno, a division of the French engineering company AKKA Technologies.
In 2020, the company was again sold to Ideactive which is a company owned by brothers Mauro and Jean-Franck Ricci. The symbolic company will resurface officially next week with the unveiling of an all-new hypercar which was teased today.
The details are yet to be revealed and are kept secret for curiosity. However, Bertone says that its performance machine has been engineered to run on fuel made from plastic waste. The new official teaser is actually quite revealing once you modify the image’s exposure and brightness. It’s a low-slung, two-seater with mid-engined proportions. The company has intentionally not said anything about the vehicle’s powertrain.
The car has the usual look of the vehicles of its genre. Hence, we know that it is not the design that is a breakthrough. Some will probably see a McLaren 720s or a Lotus Emira in that side profile, but we’re still excited to see what this old name can conjure up in 2023. Previous teasers have provided an early look at the front and back. The car has a modern look while taking advantage of LED technology.
Bertone says that the styling serves as “a praise to Italian elegance and to the ‘Italian Gentleman.'” With the reputable name in car design celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, the new hypercar is expected to leave a mark. The benchmark is too high as one of the most beautiful cars ever was brought by Bertone, including the enthralling Lamborghini Miura.
In the future, Bertone will become a “high-end manufacturer of limited edition hypercars, merging Italian elegance with breathtaking performance.” This new mysterious model will be the pioneer of this era. It is scheduled to premiere a week from tomorrow, on Wednesday, December 21, at 3 PM CET / 2 PM GMT / 9 AM Eastern.
