This New Electric Car Concept Imagines How A Classic British Roadster Would Look In The EV Era

The all-new Aura electric roadster has come back to the market after four different automaker brands in Britain worked on the model to make it a green and environmentally friendly car. it seems like an MG Midget or Triumph Spitfire. The green features it comprises are an aero-sculpted, roof- and window-free bio-composite shell, all-electric powertrain, and efficiency-optimizing HMI with a range of 400 miles.

This was done because the times of corona had put a halt on the operations for these companies. Astheimer Design, BAMD Composites, Conjure and Potenza Technologies started working on the model last year. The project was funded by the British government’s Office for Zero-Emission Vehicles through the Niche Vehicle Network. The companies gave out a hand-built version of their concept car recently.

The objective was to make a sports car that will be friendly to the atmosphere and the companies understood and delivered the assignment. Instead of one, two battery packs were used of 44-kWh packs, one upfront and the other below the spaceframe donor chassis. The Aura gives lively handling because of its combination of rear-wheel drive and neutral weight distribution.

The top over the chassis is made from a lightweight natural fiber composite and has rear-wheel cowlings to enhance aerodynamic performance. The lightweight, aero packaging makes it easier for the car to reach its estimated 400-mile (644-km) range.

The charging lingers along for four hours using the 22-kW portable charger. Important information like remaining range and weather is displayed inside the steering wheel on a 5-in self-leveling circular display. The display works in conjunction with the 10-in nav-infotainment screen through a single central computer running Android Automotive. The computer processes driving conditions, driver profile, nearby charging points to perfectly utilize the energy. It also directs drivers to charge stations along the route.

The Aura car was introduced at CENEX Low Carbon Vehicle Show this week at the Millbrook Proving Grounds. A test drive will be scheduled from Edinburgh to London. The journey can be followed through their website and via Instagram at @aura.concept.car.
