This Is What Happened To Movie Sets Of These Famous Movies After They Were Abandoned

Big budget blockbuster movies often demand exclusive sets to be prepared for filming in remote locations. Once the production is complete, many times the filming site is left in its original condition as the costs of demolition, dismantling, and other decommissioning actions are too high. So, nature takes over and starts the reclamation process. But, since it takes hundreds of years to do it, those sets after a decade or so appear to be worn down and spooky more than being affected by nature.

Here are 15 sets of some of these movies as they look today:

1 Batman (1989)

So, despite Dark Knight’s efforts, Gotham did become a ruin.

2. Popeye (1980)

The sailor man’s village is being eroded with time despite being converted into a theme park.

3. The Abyss (1989)

The Abyss has become lonelier and spookier.

4. Iron Man (2008)

Those Taliban caves still stand strong, but the tunnels start to wither in appearance.

5. Big Fish

The Big Fish village has been encroached by creepers and weeds.

6. Anna and The King (1999)

Sixteen years on, the building looks dilapidated.

7. The Fugitive (1993)

Rusty and Dusty after decades of inaction.

8. The Field of Dreams (1989)

The crops, baseball diamond, looks great due to regular maintenance I guess.

9. End of Days (1999)

It has become more of a hillbilly slaughterhouse than a demon’s lair.

10. The Shire from Lord of the Rings (2001)

The cute shire has been overrun by greenery and goats are living here instead of hobbits. Maybe they all went with Frodo.

11. Schindler’s List (1993)

The creepy ghettos and concentration camps have thick layers of rust nowadays.

12. Lone Star (1996)

The church of Lone Star lies abandoned in the middle of nowhere.

13. Asterix and Obelisk (1969)

The goat-sphinx is still there.

14. Zero Dark Thirty (2013)

Even this set from such a recent movie has undergone some serious changes.

15. Tatooine from Star Wars (1977)

The unfortunate place where Darth Vader grew up is now in ruins. Without the magic of graphics and filming, these places are just eerie and sad.
