Samsung has introduced its new display, called the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8, just ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022, which is billed as the world’s first 4K monitor with a higher 240Hz refresh rate.
With this launch, the company also expanded its Mini-LED display collection. This new 32-inch gaming monitor incorporates a Mini-LED panel, with various advantages over a standard LED screen.
The Odyssey Neo G8 appears to be similar to the Odyssey G9 49-inch, launched last year. However, it boasts a 1000R curvature, a white back with sci-fi-themed carvings, and CoreSync lighting that changes color depending on the display.
Due to the additional light sources and more precise illumination provided by the Mini LED display, the gadget has a higher brightness level. As a result, it has a brightness of up to 2,000 nits and should have a higher contrast ratio than a regular LED monitor.
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 features a 1ms GTG response time and can refresh the screen at 240 times per second with 8,294,400 pixels. Unfortunately, the HDMI 2.1 can only support 120Hz at 4K resolution on its own, but with VESA’s Display Stream Compression (DSC), it should reach 240Hz. Furthermore, the DisplayPort 1.4a supports 4K content at up to 120Hz, but DSC may outperform that.
This new gaming display is compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia’s G-Sync adaptive sync technology, so games should operate fine.
While Samsung has launched the Odyssey Neo G8 4K 240Hz Gaming Monitor, no specifics, including pricing and availability, have been released. However, we anticipate that the product will be available in the second half of this year.
