This Is The First Hydrogen-Powered EV By Renault – And It Has A Range Of 500 Miles

Conforming to the sustainable development goals, car manufacturers have also made their way into the green market, thus focusing on those practices that may cause less harm to the environment. A French car manufacturer, the Renault Group, has recently given a novel concept of introducing hydrogen-powered batteries in their upcoming EV cars. They have announced this breakthrough at the “ChangeNOW Summit” and the concept is based on a renewable mechanism, meaning that this car will be made with 70% recyclable material and 95% of this material can be reclaimed at the end of the car’s life.  The sustainable development strategy of Renault’s group works on “environment, safety, and inclusion”. Hence, all its models fulfill the criterion of safe practices with a positive impact on the environment.

The hydrogen battery utilized in this model would be smaller in size, which helps in the convenient weighing parameters of the car and employs a 75% carbon footprint in its design characteristics. Moreover, the hydrogen fuel would increase the range of this car during longer trips of up to 500 miles, compared to the previous version, which had a range of only 300 miles. Secondly, the collaboration with Nissan and Mitsubishi would further enhance the development phase of this car as these partners also promote hydrogen-powered engines.

On the other hand, Luca de Meo, the CEO of Renault Group and the Renault brand, said, “All our corporate commitments are not enough if we are not taking them all the way down to our vehicles.” That’s why I asked the Renault teams to come up with the 1st concept car that fully embodies our new ESG strategy and its three pillars: environment, safety, and inclusion. We called it Scénic Vision. Scénic, like our iconic “voiture à vivre”, and Vision because it fits people’s new expectations. ”

If we talk about the importance of hydrogen-fuelled cars and why it is of utmost importance these days, then the primary factor is to reduce the carbon footprint on the environment. Then comes the chemistry behind hydrogen, which produces water after reacting with oxygen, and this can be seen as an efficient way to fuel the engines of electric vehicles.

Another important thing to remember is that these hydrogen-powered cars are coming for commercial use by the end of this decade, i.e., in 2030, but the vehicle design and its structural parameters will be launched in 2024. As per the concept given, it looks like a family car. However, the VP of Renault’s group sustainability department said, “The Scénic Vision concept-car embodies Renaulution’s transformation to a greener, tech-oriented company.” It embraces the challenges of climate change, resource conservation, user safety and health, and accessibility. In addition to being a design object, it is a series of objectives that the group has set for itself and that will be gradually introduced in the next generations of vehicles”.
