Mercedes AMG created a gem of an engine in the shape of hand-built M139. It is a 2.0L turbocharged inline 4-cylinder that can generate 416 horsepower. This makes the M139 the most powerful turbo 4-cylinder engine that is currently part of any production car. The M139 engine is being used in the Mercedes GLA45, CLA45, and A45 vehicles. It offers 416 horsepower at 6,750 RPM, and 369 pound-foot at 5,000 RPM.
The M139 4-cylinder engine has a displacement of 1991 cc and can generate more than 208 horsepower per liter. It also features the highest peak combustion pressures of any engine. So, how did Mercedes do it? To put it simply; making use of clever engineering. The 4-cylinder engine is filled with wonderful engineering features. Whether it is the layout of the engine, roller-bearing twin-scroll turbos, the block and forged internals, the cylinder head, the spray-on cylinder liners, or any other component; Mercedes definitely has outdone itself.
