Drones have been quite popular with the US army in recent times. However, lately we are noticing another trend where drones are being made for civilian use as well.
The drones are being continuously upgraded and latest designs are being incorporated to enable them to perform a number of tasks. Today’s post is about one such drone which has just come off the shelf and can be folded to a size of a tablet for ease in portability. The drone is known as Pocket Drone and is able to fly for 20 minutes and when not in use, it can be folded and transported with convenience. Pocket Drone’s fund raising campaign is being carried out at Kickstarter and it is being called ‘The GoPro of drones’. In essence it can be called a ‘multi-copter’ which can fly and also be folded to fit in a pocket when not in use. The drone comes equipped with a camera that can be used for capturing photographs or recording videos. The drone is powered by a rechargeable battery which guarantees 20 minutes of flight time. Timothy Reuter, TJ Johnson and Chance Roth are the genius minds behind this creation and they have stated the following on the Kickstarter page; ‘Until now, most people could not participate in this awesome new technology revolution — the cost was too great, the drones too bulky, and the software too difficult to operate.’ It is being claimed by the creators that this drone is simple to use and can be unpacked and launched within 20 seconds – talk about speedy entrance – and can be controlled by a third party RC controller or the user’s Android phone. The best part is that the software has been kept open source so those who want to tweak it are easily able to do so. The full package can be purchased for $495 and it is being called an inexpensive alternate for shooting videos and taking photographs. The funding will be complete on 9th March, 2014 and we shall see this drone in action soon.
