Technological advances are making the distances smaller while bringing the convenience of easy mobility for us. One of the sectors that have been completely transformed with the advent of technology is logistics. Things can be now preplanned more accurately and precisely; the means of transportation and conveyance have been significantly improved, and the ways that allow the deliveries of products are also unique now.
Earlier, a drone was introduced that helped make the deliveries to the clients with a long rope tied to the flying object. The drone had A2Z Drone Delivery’s RDS1 system. The basic RDS1 (Rapid Delivery System 1) kit comprises a motorized reel of Kevlar cord, at the end of which is an elastic fabric pouch that can hold a payload weighing up to 2 kg (4.4 lb).
Now, the technology is incorporated in a custom-designed multicopter drone. The drone travels to find its destination. Once it has reached where it is supposed to, it stays at a height of 150 ft (46 m) and releases the brake on the reel. As a result, the object freefalls down the height. Just before it is about to reach the ground, the brakes are applied again to ensure safety and the package is dropped to the ground safely. This function is supported by the mechanism of the LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensor on the drone, which measures exactly how far the aircraft is from the ground.
The drone then retrieves back once the package is received. The system keeps the public away from the noise of the propellors or its fast movement. It safely passes past the tree branches or any such obstructions in the way.
Its battery range is about 15 km (9 miles) if carrying two loads, or 30 km (18 mi) if carrying just one. Also, the drone’s propeller arms can be folded in when it’s not in use, essentially turning it into 0.8 m-tall by 1.3 m-wide cubes (2.6 by 4.3 ft). moreover, it can be controlled remotely by the operators.
Originally, this technology was built to be installed in a DJI Matrice 600 Pro hexacopter. It still made a part of A2Z’s new RDSX octocopter.
