Quantum Theory of Light
The theory of light by Einstein stated that light is made up of small packets of energy known as photons. According to Einstein, these photons were particles but also exhibited wave-like properties. This was a completely new idea at that time.
Special Theory Of Relativity
He started some inconsistencies in Newtonian mechanics in the context of understanding the electromagnetism. That is why he published a paper in September 1905 wherein he suggested a new method of approaching the mechanics of objects that came closer to the speed of light. The concept was termed as Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity and transformed the understanding of physics.
Put simply; he was able to realize that space contracts and time dilates as objects move. He was able to ascertain further that motion through space can be considered as a movement through time.
If you have ever been to a Chemistry class, then you remember Avogadro’s number. The number came up while Einstein was busy trying to describe the Brownian motion. The Brownian motion is the haphazard movement of particle sin a fluid. Anyhow, Einstein was able to come up with an expression for the quantity of Avogadro’s number as a measurable quantity. This allowed the scientists to determine the mass of an atom or the molar mass for each element of the periodic table.
The Bose-Einstein Condensate
Back in 1924, Einstein received a paper from a physicist, Satyendra Nath Bose. The paper was about detailing a way of thinking of light as a gas that featured indistinguishable particles. Einstein worked in collaboration with Bose for extending this idea to atoms, thus leading to the prediction of a new state of matter; the Bose-Einstein Condensate. The very first example of this state was created in 1995. It is basically a group of atoms that have been cooled down to as close as is possible to absolute zero. Once they have reached the said temperature; their movement in relation to one another ceases, and they begin to join together and behave as a single atom.
General Theory of Relativity
The General Theory of Relativity was published by Einstein in 1916. The paper generalizes the concepts of Special Relativity and Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation while stating that gravity is a property of space and time. The theory has helped scientists of today to gain a better understanding of the large-scale structure of the universe.
