Top Aces, based in Montreal, is using cutting edge upgrades to its F-16 fleet to redefine advanced adversary air training. Top Aces — the only private operator of F-16s globally — will further improve its training by using innovative technologies such as AI systems, new electronic jammers and advanced missile systems.
It already has state of the art equipment on the F-16 Advanced Aggressor Fighters including Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, helmet mounted cueing systems and advanced jamming pods. These systems give U.S. and allied pilots realistic, demanding combat scenarios that are vital to modern warfare readiness.
Top Aces’ President Russ Quinn also mentioned plans to add firsts in high off boresight infrared missiles, AI controlled air wingmen and enhanced electronic warfare capabilities. “The goal of these upgrades is to achieve unmatched realism in training, ensuring pilots are ready for high stakes air combat,” Quinn said.
Under the U.S. Air Force’s Combat Air Force Contracted Air Support program, Top Aces has been selected to lead the adversary training workforce. The five-year initiative means the company can offer immersive training at bases like Eglin and Luke Air Force Bases, and the tough schoolhouse of the fifth generation pilot.
It represents a major milestone in the integration of Leonardo’s SkyWard infrared search and track (IRST) sensor. Early detection and tracking of targets beyond visual range as well as situational awareness and engagement tactics during training missions are enabled by this passive longwave infrared technology.
Quinn emphasized, “Our F-16 AAF platform, augmented by our team, provides unparalleled cost effective, realistic training options to our customers.”
Together with partners such as DARPA, AFRL, Top Aces continues to lead the defense training sector, having more than 130,000 accident free flight hours. Submission of these collaborations demonstrates the company’s dedication to improving military readiness, making certain pilots are able to optimally prepare for the difficulties of present day air fighting with confidence and precision.
