The World’s Largest 3D-Printed Building Has Smashed All Previous Records

A new standard in the construction industry has been established by the 3D Printed Schools Project, which is being led by UCC Holding in partnership with Qatar’s Public Works Authority. Two of the 14 public schools that will be developed as part of this project will be constructed using cutting-edge 3D printing technology. The two schools will be built using the biggest 3D printers ever used in construction, demonstrating the project’s extraordinary scale.

The enormous printers were specially created by COBOD, the top 3D printing construction company. Astonishingly, each BODXL printer is 50 meters (164 feet) long, 30 meters (98 feet) wide, and 15 meters (49 feet) high. In accordance with exact blueprints, these printers extrude a cement-like substance in layers to construct the school’s structural shell. After the project is finished, human builders will add windows, doors, roofs, and other necessary components to complete it.

Two two-story schools with a combined built-up area of 20,000 square meters (215,000 square feet) will be the product of this creative approach, adding to the 40,000 square meters (430,500 square feet) of 3D-printed space. This enormous size sets a new record, 40 times larger than the largest 3D-printed building ever constructed. With an emphasis on building sustainable, future-ready schools that are both practical and motivating, the project is a component of Qatar’s endeavor to update its educational infrastructure.

The distinctive aesthetics of the schools’ design will be influenced by the desert scenery of Qatar. The finished structures will have curved, flowing walls that resemble desert dunes, giving students a striking visual environment. Although there are currently no renders of the designs available, the project is expected to revolutionize the region’s educational infrastructure.

The 3D Printed Schools Project, which is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2025, is opening the door for more sophisticated, effective, and environmentally friendly building techniques. More information is expected in the upcoming months, and it marks a major advancement in the application of 3D printing in the construction sector.
