Kerosene, a less expensive alternative fuel that can be used in jet engines to travel faster, is the subject of another aviation innovation that China is concentrating on. The country has reportedly already tested the new jet engine on Beijing’s JF-12 hypersonic shock tunnel, reaching speeds of up to Mach 9.
Chinese scientists working under the direction of Liu Yinfeng at the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences developed the “hypersonic detonation wave engine.”
According to SCMP, Chinese experts claimed that they had already created a powerful jet engine that runs on kerosene and is capable of hypersonic travel. The engine’s alleged capacity to fly at Mach 9 under test conditions while attached to an aircraft is at the heart of the claims.
This tunnel can sustain experiments at Mach 30 speeds, making it a perfect testing environment for the country’s latest jet engine development.
According to sources, the country’s researchers behind the so-called “hypersonic detonation wave engine” already published the study in the Journal of Experiments in Fluid Mechanics.
The team concentrated on using a less expensive fuel, kerosene, to power the jet engine and on a revolutionary combustion process termed “detonation,” which is more efficient and provides faster power for its needs than typical ones employed by scramjets.
China is making tremendous strides in the aviation sector, with a focus on attempting to enhance its current fleet. With its most recent stealth bomber, the H-20, which rivals the US model, the nation has taken a big step in this domain.
It does serve to demonstrate how, in terms of its air force, China is already a technologically advanced nation, capable of contending with the United States and other world giants.
