Voltari, a prominent figure in marine electric vehicle innovation, has unveiled the Patrol 26 RIB, an all-electric patrol boat tailored for government, military, and security operations.
The Patrol 26 RIB is engineered to deliver unmatched speed, precision, and reliability without the drawbacks of noise or emissions. Outfitted with a trimmable outdrive, contra-rotating propellers, and a dual-prop military-grade drive, it consistently outperforms internal combustion engine (ICE) boats of similar size and power. According to Voltari’s founder and CEO, Cam Heaps, the electric vessel excels in crucial performance areas such as acceleration and maneuverability, making it a formidable contender in maritime applications.
Voltari’s innovative design has caught the attention of prominent defense organizations. Two Patrol 26 boats are being demoed in San Diego by a major naval defense contractor as part of a potential security contract with the US Navy. Additionally, Canada’s Coast Guard, facilitated by ISED Canada, will begin testing the vessel in December. These partnerships underscore the Patrol 26’s potential to become a key player in modern naval fleets.
Designed to excel in saltwater and rough seas, the Patrol 26 RIB is the world’s first 100% electric patrol boat, capable of replacing traditional ICE vessels across multiple applications. Its lightweight carbon fiber hull and deep-V oceangoing design ensures superior handling, even in challenging conditions.
The boat is equipped with shock suspension seating to enhance crew comfort during rigorous missions and includes advanced features such as a fixed-mount FLIR thermal night vision camera for optimal performance in low-light scenarios. Secure dry storage near the helm provides space for critical equipment, including marine flares and both lethal and non-lethal weapons.
For operators requiring additional protection and comfort, Voltari offers the Patrol 26 Pilot. This version includes climate control, space for four passengers, and foldable seats that maximize interior flexibility when not in use.
Powered by an impressive 740 HP electric drivetrain, the Patrol 26 RIB boasts a top speed exceeding 55 mph, a cruising speed of 20-30 mph, and a range of up to 100 miles at idle or 30 miles at 25 mph cruise speed. With 550 kW peak power and continuous power at 425 kW, the boat delivers seamless transitions between forward and reverse without the jarring movements typical of traditional transmissions.
Heaps highlighted the cost advantages of going electric, noting that the Patrol 26 offers significant savings in maintenance up to $1 million per vessel over a decade when compared to twin 300 HP ICE applications running at 4000 rpm.
