Nobody loves to do laundry but we can’t keep on wearing dirty clothes. But since clothes are not disposable, laundry is necessary. It is manageable at home but becomes a hassle when you are travelling. Sonic Soak has been designed keeping that in mind and is a tiny portable washing machine.
Rather than using water, it uses sound waves to clean your clothes and can even clean anything from toothbrushes, jewellery, fruits, vegetables and basically everything you can put in a tub of water. The Sonic Soak uses ultrasound to clean these items. The device emits high-frequency sound waves that create tiny pressure bubbles in the water, which collide with the items and wash away the dirt.
A stainless-steel cylinder measuring 10.5 cm x 3.5 cm emits the ultrasound waves and is placed in a tub full of water with just a little bit of detergent. It is hooked up to a unit that is connected to a wall outlet. Sonic Soak emits 50,000 ultrasonic vibrations per second and the timer can be set on the wall unit.
The device has applications that go beyond just cleaning your dirty laundry. It can also clean hygiene items like toothbrushes and razors, baby bottles and pacifiers as well as silverware, toys, tools, eyeglasses, jewellery, dishes, fruits and vegetables.
The small size means that the device is portable and can be a huge help in travelling and camping kits. Furthermore, it only uses 10% of the energy and 2% of the water that is used by a washing machine. Even though it emits ultrasound waves, the human ear cannot hear them and the device is very silent.
Sonic Soak was an Indiegogo campaign last year where it made a huge 9,500 % of its goal and passed the $2 million mark. You can get your hands on one for $150. The device has already started shipping out to backers so you shouldn’t have much of a wait before it makes its way to you.
