The New York International Auto Show is one of the most anticipated events in the automotive industry. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, automakers have been moving away from auto shows and introducing new products virtually. Despite this, the event still saw some exciting debuts, such as the Ram 1500 Rev electric pickup truck and the Kia EV9 SUV.
The Ram 1500 Rev joins the growing number of electric pickup trucks in the market. It comes with a choice of two battery packs, with the larger one expected to provide up to 500 miles (800 kilometers) of range per charge. The truck can tow up to 14,000 pounds (6350 kilograms) and carry 2700 pounds (1,225 kilograms) in its bed, making it a versatile and powerful vehicle. Additionally, the truck can add up to 110 miles (177 kilometers) of range in about 10 minutes with a 350 kilowatt fast charger. It’s also capable of powering worksite tools and sending power back to the grid or powering a home during an outage.
The Ram 1500 Rev is built on a new frame designed specifically for larger electric vehicles. It’s expected to hit showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2024, and the price will be announced closer to the on-sale date. Stellantis, which makes Ram vehicles, says the truck will be built in the U.S. and should qualify for a $7,500 U.S. electric vehicle tax credit.
On the other hand, the Kia EV9 SUV is an electric version of the popular gas-powered Telluride. It can seat up to seven people in three rows of seats and comes with two powertrain options. The larger battery is expected to provide up to 300 miles (480 kilometers) of range per charge. The SUV can go from zero to 60 mph (97 kilometers per hour) in five seconds and can be charged from 10% to 80% in under 25 minutes at a fast-charging station.
Kia is expected to launch the EV9 in U.S. showrooms later this year, with production at the company’s plant in West Point, Georgia, starting next year. The price of the SUV will be announced closer to the date it goes on sale.
In conclusion, the Ram 1500 Rev electric pickup truck and the Kia EV9 SUV are two exciting debuts at the New York International Auto Show. With their impressive range, power, and versatility, they show that electric vehicles are here to stay and are becoming more mainstream.
