If you were thinking of getting the iPhone 17 Pro Max in Cosmic Orange, you might be out of luck – at least for now. Preorders just went live and the orange version is already out of stock, as reported by Macworld.
Orders placed early for that orange Pro Max are now showing delivery dates pushed back to mid-October, even though the official release is set for September 19. That’s almost a month’s delay. Just an hour after preorders opened, Apple’s website was reporting Oct 6-13 for deliveries. Other colors like deep blue are showing backlog too – though some models in silver are available sooner.
Interestingly, the shorter wait times are mostly for non-Pro Max models. The iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and smaller Pro version are still expected to ship by September 19 in all color and capacity options. So the demand seems especially high for the bigger, flashier phone.
That suggests a few things. One, people really want the orange color. It’s new and eye-catching, and maybe it feels a bit exclusive now that it sold out fast. Two, Apple may have produced fewer units of that color or of the Pro Max in general. Both factors tend to strain supply.
If you didn’t preorder the orange Pro Max, your best shot is to try getting one in-store once they release. Apple tends to reserve some inventory for retail locations. It’s also possible resellers or carriers might have stock later, though likely at a markup.
This also feels like a repeat of what we saw when new colors or special finishes launch for high-end phones: fans swoop in fast. Get excited about something different, preorder, then watch delivery estimates stretch out for the rare version. Historic Apple stuff.
The takeaway? If you want the newest color for the top tier model, you can’t wait. Those who move fast are getting the rewards. For everyone else, expect delays or settle for a different color, or a smaller iPhone 17 version.
