The much-awaited solution for homes without a hardwired charging system from Tesla has been introduced; a portable home charging system. The release has been made in the US and is aimed at Tesla owners who don’t have a hardwired Tesla charging system at their home.
The latest home charging station can be directly plugged into the wall via the NEMA 14-50 plug – the very common domestic high-voltage plug in the US – and used for charging the Tesla models. The new Tesla charging system provides up to 40 amps. According to the Tesla website, it ‘provides 40 amps (9.6kW) of power for all Model S, Model X, and Model 3 Long Range vehicles. Model 3 Mid-Range and Standard Range vehicles will charge at 32 amps when using the 14-50 Wall Connector.’
However, if you are aiming for home charging faster than this; you would do better to make use of the hardwired charging system. The hardwired Tesla charging system remains the fastest option to date. The solution shows that Tesla is doing all that it can for dealing with one of the hurdles that are causing a setback for the potential EV owners; lack of access to charging stations in rented properties.
The new plug-in will become popular in Europe since apartment living is much more common in Europe with limited access to parking. The new charger comes with a price tag of $500. Many EV leaders are focusing on imparting the ability to owners for quickly charging their EVs. Tesla is leading the industry and is readily rolling out its supercharging stations all over the world. In a tweet last year, the CEO Elon Musk said, ‘Yes. Supercharger coverage will extend to 100% of Europe next year. From Ireland to Kiev, from Norway to Turkey.’
Musk while replying to a tweet said, ‘We are dramatically increasing Tesla Superchargers within cities & working with landlords to add home charging to apartment buildings.’ The electric car infrastructure is being expected to become the deciding factor for consumers’ choice in the coming years. Fast and affordable charging can favor EVs as the choice of cars.
The biggest advantage that Tesla owners have is the fact that Elon Musk has repeatedly stated that the company will not use the charging of its EVs as a source of revenue.
