Tesla Slashes Its Summer Internship Program To Cut Costs, Even As Elon Musk Fights To Save His $45 Billion Pay Plan

Tesla is under fire for revoking internship offers, throwing ambitious employees in limbo just weeks before their start dates.

Many hopeful interns were taken aback by Tesla’s decision, which has left them rushing to find other jobs. Joshua Schreiber, a student at Miami University, described his experience as follows: “I checked my Tesla email at 8:46 a.m. to find out about my trip. “My internship offer was gone by 11:25 a.m.,” emphasising how abrupt and unanticipated the decision was. Students like Schreiber are encountering financial difficulties with just a few weeks to go before their internships begin despite having already spent a substantial amount of money preparing.

The consequences of Tesla’s actions go beyond specific interns, and the company has appealed for assistance. Diana Rosenberg, a Tesla employee, posted a message on LinkedIn asking her network to consider employing the relocated interns, highlighting the dual loss that the firm and the interns were experiencing.

The recent round of layoffs at Tesla, which Elon Musk justified as needed to streamline operations in the face of financial difficulties, is to blame for the cancellation of internship offers. Musk’s drive for cost savings, which included a target of 20% fewer staff members, resulted in a major restructuring of the company that impacted departments like the marketing and Supercharger teams.

The decision to withdraw internship offers affects thousands of university and community college students’ goals worldwide and disrupts Tesla’s hiring process, even though it may not result in significant cost savings for the company.

The situation imparts a valuable lesson to the affected students on perseverance and adaptability. University of Texas at Austin communication student Brook Gura considered the setback and said, “Rejection is redirection,” welcoming the chance for personal development even in the face of a revoked internship offer.
