Tesla Owners Locked Out Of Cars As App Stopped Working On Monday

A number of Tesla owners ended up getting locked out of their cars on Monday night and were left stranded after the app stopped working. The panicked drivers flocked to Twitter in light of their plight and tweeted at Tesla and Elon Musk to inquire what was going on.

A number of drivers tweeted screenshots of the app that showed a warning message saying, ‘Temporary Maintenance. Please try again later.’ One of Tesla’s selling features is that you can make use of the app for unlocking your car and you need not travel with a key.

However, if you don’t have the key card or key fob and end up getting logged out of the app, you will have to wait. The phone-as-key function is great, but it does have its limitations, right? A representative for Tesla said that the app was down at around 4 pm PST on Monday and was not available for a brief amount of time.

This does pose a question for Tesla owners; would you rather be at the mercy of the app that might be unavailable for a number of reasons or would you prefer to have a key or fob with you to make sure that you are able to access your Tesla whenever you want to? I don’t mind carrying a car key or a fob as long as it gives me the certainty of being able to access my vehicle any time I want to because let’s face it; being stranded and unable to enter your own car can prove to be too much of a hassle, right?

Do let us know what do you think about this though and would you still be willing to use the phone-as-key function by Tesla despite the risk that you might have to wait if the app is down or if you have been logged out.
