Sony Is Patenting A New 3D Scanner That Will Put Real-World Objects In Virtual Reality

Sony just revealed the PlayStation VR2 at CES 2022, revealing some of its specifications and some in-game footage demonstrating its capabilities. Now, a new patent has surfaced that displays a 3D Scanner that might allow gamers to incorporate real-world objects into video games and virtual reality environments.

According to a report, the patent was initially submitted to the patent office in June of 2021, but Sony had to resubmit it with changes because of issues with existing patents.

According to the patent description, the upcoming technology would allow users to scan real-world objects, which will then be reproduced in virtual space. However, Sony has made no mention of its use of the technology. However, some potential applications include using it in VR games to render real-world items into the game, using it in the ever-expanding metaverse to create your real-life possessions into virtual space, and even using it as a tool for animators and game developers to make their work easier.

Furthermore, it should be noted that the patent has not yet been given to Sony, so we may have to wait a little longer before seeing this technology in action.
