Sea Hunter is an unmanned warship that can cross the open seas and hunt submarines autonomously. The warship can function on the open sea without needing a human crew for 2 to 3 months. It uses an array of sensors and cameras in addition to SONAR. It uses the technology to detect stealthy submarines and then guides warships or aircrafts to their location.
With a top speed of 31 MPH, the ship was not designed to carry any weapons and it is much cheaper to operate. It only costs one-tenth of what a similar conventional submarine hunter. It cost $20 million to build the ship and DARPA has handed over the prototype to the US Navy after 2 years of testing.
