A Russian drone pilot captured a breathtaking video as he flew his drone to an altitude of 33,000 feet. This altitude is normally reserved for passenger jets. Denis Koryakin flew his drone to a world record height for an everyday hobby drone.
The beautiful footage captured by the Russian drone pilot shows the curvature of the Earth gradually pulling into view as the drone shakes and buzzes rising through the clouds in a remote region of Siberia.
There are strict laws on the maximum altitudes the drones are allowed to fly at and the previous maximum height attained was less than half of this at 15,000 feet.
Mr. Koryakin flew his drone in the remote region of Russia near the Siberian city of Strejevoï, where there are no altitude restrictions on small drone flights. The 32-year old pilot spent months preparing the 1-kilo drone and decided to attempt the flight earlier this month.
The temperatures on the day of the flight very very cold around -10°C at ground level and dropped to -50°C at 26,246 feet. The total flight lasted 26 minutes and resulted in breathtaking pictures and a video. You can watch the video here.
