Robots Deployed On A Suicidal Mission To Capture Photos Of Nuclear Meltdown Inside Fukushima’s Reactor No 3

Fukushima nuclear disaster has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, ( the editor is requested to hyperlink Fukushima’s 777,000 Tons Of Nuclear Waste Will Be Dumped Into the Ocean once it is published), and it would certainly take one heroically stupid person or a machine to walk into the hell hole!

But, this set of robots were “brave” enough to make one-way trips into the extremely radioactive and dangerous Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant’s severely damaged reactors. Best of all, they have sent back photos of the horrific meltdown inside the ruined facility.

Remotely controlled Toshiba robots were used to gain glimpses of,

“a hardened black, grey, and orange substance”

below reactor No. 3, as reported by Bloomberg.  Tokyo Electric Power Co. Holdings Inc. has commented on the photos, saying that the substance is the remains of atomic fuel rods that melted and fused with other structural components of the facility.

The operation is vital to identify the melted-down materials, and their composition for the final phase of the ongoing Tepco cleanup efforts.

“Never before have we taken such clear pictures of what could be melted fuel,” utility official Takahiro Kimoto told reporters, per Bloomberg. “We believe that the fuel melted and mixed with the metal directly underneath it. And it is highly likely that we have filmed that on Friday.”

The meltdown initiated after the 2011 Thoku earthquake and tsunami, which led to an evacuation of over 100,000 people from a 30-mile radius around the facility. The Fukushima reactors are still very dangerous, and just in February 2017, the radiation levels inside the reactor No. 2 were recorded at least 650 sieverts per hour, which are enough to fry a person in a matter of seconds. Naturally, they also destroyed the electronics inside Tepco robots!

Tepco, the hero we require but don’t deserve!
