Today we will tell you how you can build your own drone using the impressive Makeblock’s Airblock system. Airblock system is Lego’s high-tech cousin where magnetic, modular parts are joined to create the perfect drone or hovercraft. The modular blocks are easily replaceable and are non-hazardous as they are made from engineered plastic foam. The material is also durable as it has incredible shock-absorbing properties, thus making your drone nearly indestructible.
Jasen Wang, the founder of the startup, said his inspiration was teaching students (STEM) science, technology, engineering and math (content). He said,
“A STEM education has always been our beat and passion. People have this notion that coding can only be done on computers in a room, but coding can be done anywhere. We wanted to show this through our Airblock drone — that you can build it code it and see it physically come to life within minutes and all from the palm of your hand. You also learn to be creative when you DIY.”
The drone technology can be controlled using the Airblock app, which allows users of every background to code their way and create an interface to their creations. The app uses Bluetooth to control the drone and will be available on both iOS and Android.
Specs of the drone:
6 minutes of flight time
10 meters flight height
1.5 m/s max speed
140 g weight
The hovercraft hovers 8 minutes, travels at 2.5 m/s, and weighs 200 g.
