For all the Wi-Fi users who are complaining about Internet speed, Samsung has finally come up with the breakthrough that will allows users to download a file worth 1 GB under 3 seconds. According to Samsung, the 60 GHz Wi-Fi technology will let users experience a ‘five-fold increase’ from the max speed possible with the currently used electronic devices.
Samsung says, “Samsung’s new technology removes the gap between theoretical and actual speeds, and exhibits actual speed that is more than 10 times faster than that of 2.4 Ghz and 5GHz WiFi technologies.”
Samsung has told that it has succeeded in tackling the issue of ‘cocktail-party’ that is the name given to the interference being caused due to a large number of Wi-Fi-enabled devices in a room. Samsung is all set to bring this technology to the market soon enough with the delay caused by the fact that it has quite a large footprint when it comes to consumer electronics.
However, all of you giddy-looking readers right now, here is the downside to this awesome news; it will not speed up your broadband connection. The only thing that it will be improving is the quality of your internal network. We are hoping that Time Warner Cable and Internet service provider, will be backing up this technology soon enough.
The effective range for this technology is only 15 feet and this implies that this particular technology won’t be able to make its way through small objects or walls. This means that the technology is awesome if you want to share files between your device and TV but not much of a thrill when you look at large scale implementation of it.
Just to clarify, the approach was pioneered by WiGig, which promised a speed of 7 GB/sec as compared to 4.6 GB/sec that is being offered by Samsung. Samsung will be implementing this technology to the medical devices, telecommunications equipment and audio-visual gadgets and in the words of the company, it will be an “integral development relevant to the Samsung Smart Home and other initiatives related to the Internet of Things.”
Samsung says that the first device making use of this technology will be released in 2015. Kim Chang Yong, Head of Samsung’s DMC R&D Center, shared, “New and innovative changes await Samsung’s next-generation devices, while new possibilities have been opened up for the future development of Wi-Fi technology.” Check out the youtube video below for more details:
