Did you have a tiring day and want to ride back home in silence? If that is the case, then Uber is here to help you out! The ride-hailing giant is all set to launch a new in-app feature that will enable users to request a minimal conversation with the driver while they are headed to their destination. They will, of course, have to pay a bit more to avail the Quiet Mode feature.
As of right now, the Quiet Mode is only available for Uber Black and Uber Black SUV premium rides. Starting today, the users will be able to choose between ‘Quiet Preferred’, ‘Happy to Chat’, or ‘No Preference’ under the conversation heading in the app. Simply put, with quiet mode; you can take a nap, answer emails or listen to your favorite music without any interruption from your driver.
The company has said, ‘If you need to respond to emails or are in the mood for a nap, make your trip a quieter one with just one tap. If you’re in the mood to chat, that’s an option too.’ The quiet mode feature is being rolled out as part of the Uber’s latest list of ‘ride preferences’ that are available with premium rides and include requesting help with their luggage and setting the preferred temperature ahead of time as well. Another feature that has been introduced is the ‘Extended Pickup Period’ which basically extended the time that the driver has to wait before cancelling the ride.
Uber Black users will still be getting charged if the driver has to wait for over five minutes after arriving; however; the driver will have to wait an additional 15 minutes before cancelling the ride. The company said, ‘We know that when riders choose Uber Black and Uber Black SUV, they want a consistent, high-quality experience every time they ride. With these new features and more to come, we’re excited to ensure that our riders can arrive relaxed and refreshed, wherever they’re headed.’
In comparison, Uber Black rides are about 100% more expensive as opposed to Uber X, whereas they are about 200% more expensive when compared with the Uber Pool. The quiet mode feature will allow users to have a quiet ride without undergoing an awkward situation where you have to request the same from the driver. Let’s see how the customers respond to this feature!
or, get this, instead of paying insane amounts of money, you could politely ask the driver, explain you had a long and tiresome day, and that you would prefer not to talk if it is possible, and I’m sure most, if not all drivers would appreciate the politeness and let you be
