New Genius Water Injection System Adds 50 Horsepower To BMW M4 GTS

What you are looking at is one of the very few production cars that have been fitted with a water injection system. Between us, the water injection system can clearly knock out any competitors! We recently covered a video by Jason Fenske from Engineering Explained where he talked about Subaru STI S209. Today we are going to feature another of his videos where he is passionately explaining the BMW M4 GTS!

Jason Fenske, for the uninitiated, is known for his love of engineering and cars. He is famous for his direct and accurate explaining style. Coming back to the car of the hour; the BMW M4 GTS is one of the rare production cars that has been fitted with a water injection system. As per Fenske, this water injection system helps cranks up the twin-turbo I6 engine from 444 horsepower to 493 horsepower.

The video also sports a detailed description of how this intricate but effective system works. The water injection system comes from BMW as well. The description is given below, but we strongly suggest that you do check out the video to listen to Fenske explain it in detail.

The description reads, ‘Water is injected as a fine spray into the intake manifold plenum chamber where it evaporates, significantly lowering the temperature of the intake air. This reduces the final compression temperature in the combustion chamber, which also reduces the risk of knock, allowing the turbocharged engine to operate with higher boost pressure and earlier spark timing. The result is increased power and torque, and a substantial improvement in efficiency. Despite the extra power output, thermal stress on all performance-related components is reduced. All of these features ultimately help to diminish wear and prolong engine life. The benefits of water injection can be utilized in various ways, depending on engine and vehicle type.’

Check out the video below and let us know what you think of this amazing system that is capable of boosting your engine’s horsepower!
