The Ford Mustang Mach-E set a new Guinness World Record after traveling 569 miles on a single charge, breaking the previous record of 563.97 miles from Hangzhou, China. Such an extraordinary feat underlines the strides that electric vehicle (EV) technology is taking and their increasing viability in real-world use cases.
Webfleet-sponsored drivers Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke completed the record-breaking journey; they have previously set records in fuel economy and energy consumption for EVs. It took 24 hours, video-recorded at all times with independent verification, along with odometer readings, GPS, battery level data. The route is bound to cover typical daily driving conditions from Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire to Cambridgeshire on both urban and rural roads.
The Mustang Mach-E, equipped with a 91kWh battery, exceeded expectations by averaging 6.25 miles per kilowatt hour (kWh) on public roads. Remarkably, after the battery reached 0%, the drivers managed to continue for another 21 miles, pushing the vehicle’s limits and proving the resilience of modern EV technology.
This record-setting endeavor was supported by the Automobile Association (AA), with president Edmund King OBE expressing pride in the role their expert Patrols and backup team played in the achievement. “The drivers, along with the Mustang Mach-E and Bridgestone, have demonstrated that EVs can go much further than people think,” King said.
The vehicle’s performance was further enhanced by Bridgestone tires, which helped optimize its range. Beverley Wise, Webfleet UKI Regional Director for Bridgestone Mobility Solutions, emphasized that this achievement represents a significant milestone in the electrification of road transport.
China’s ZEEKR previously held the title, while NIO’s CEO William Li recently live-streamed a 14-hour trip covering 650 miles in the ET7 with a 150 kWh semi-solid state battery pack. Booker expressed his excitement about the record, stating, “Breaking this record has been an exhilarating journey and a powerful demonstration of what electric vehicles can achieve.”
