Microsoft Abandons Windows 7 For Good

If you’re a Windows 7 user, you must have updated your PC for one last time as Microsoft announced to stop supporting Windows 7. So, what does that mean? You will be able to use it, but if God forbid, a bug hits your device, bear the loss! No more security updates and patches, greatly enhancing the risk of virus attacks or getting hacked.

That’s definitely a bad news because statistics show, that one in four Microsoft users are running Windows 7 (Source: StatCounter). But a good one for the hackers around, as they won’t be chased anymore by the developers and engineers guarding the software. Microsoft announces publicly that they won’t be responsible for any more flaws disturbing the systems.

That’s a big risk to your system’s privacy. Quoting vice president of security research at Trend Micro, Rik Ferguson, “Running an unpatched machine means that the flaws in the code will never be fixed and as exploits for those flaws become known and widespread, your chances of being successfully attacked grow very rapidly,”

Giving you pretty good advice, don’t waste any more of your time, load your data and get shifted to a secure operating system.

Still not convinced? Then wait for a hacker, to spy upon you, or maybe steal your important data, or else, put aside a huge amount as sooner or later, you’ll be paying an amount for the ransom virus. You must remember, the major WannaCry ransomware attack, hitting NHS in 2017. And if you want your system to be the next one, then retain the calmness!

Negligence at their end led them to bear heavy losses. A timely update would have saved them from the consequences.

Indirectly, it’s a request for all users to shift to Windows 10, and who knows the decision intended to promote the latter one. But now, the users don’t have a second choice! Another warning generated is to avoid using Windows 10 on older PCs.“While it is possible to install Windows 10 on your older device, it is not recommended,” Microsoft said.

For all the users, it is highly recommended not to do transactions, internet banking or exchange important official emails via Windows 7. The same has been instructed by UK authorities specifically National Cyber Security Centre. Talking about those who have business dependencies as a good number of softwares are compatible only with Windows 7. Microsoft offered them a solution, with an amount to pay to get the necessary Security Updates, but again the deadline for that too is 2023.

There may be business-critical applications that will not run on newer operating systems, or there may be significant costs associated with upgrading those applications,” Mr. Ferguson says.

The scenario backs up that surely it is another business-boosting act!
