Meta has unveiled a tiny, Tamagotchi-like device designed to keep its Muse artificial intelligence assistant within constant reach. Called the Muse Charm, the keychain-sized gadget combines a small display, a fingerprint sensor and Meta’s real-time AI voice and avatar technology.
The device was demonstrated by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg during the company’s Connect event. Rather than displaying a virtual pet, the Charm uses a small animated avatar to represent Muse, Meta’s AI system. Users can tap the fingerprint sensor positioned in the corner of the device to begin interacting with the assistant.
Meta says the concept is designed to make Muse available without requiring a smartphone or another conventional screen. The company has described the Charm as a way to fit the complete Muse experience, including its real-time voice and avatar technology, into a device small enough to attach to a keychain.
The Charm’s display provides a visual identity for Muse through an interchangeable animated character. This gives the AI a persistent physical presence, rather than limiting interactions to an app or traditional smart display.
However, the product is still in an early development stage. Meta has not finalized the Charm’s components or industrial design and has produced only a small number of working units so far. The company has not yet provided detailed specifications, pricing or information about battery life and connectivity.
Despite its unfinished state, Meta is targeting the holiday shopping season for the device. Zuckerberg indicated that the company hopes to have the Muse Charm ready to ship in December, although the final launch timing could depend on the remaining development work.
Meta has increasingly explored hardware as a way to make its AI assistants more accessible in everyday situations. The Charm represents a particularly compact approach, turning an AI assistant into a dedicated physical object that can remain attached to a user’s belongings.
Meta has promised to reveal more information about the Muse Charm soon, including additional details about how the device will work and what users can expect when it eventually reaches the market.
