It seems like Tesla’s monopoly over the all-electric SUV market is in danger, as Mercedes announced its very own luxury EV crossover, called the EQ, this Thursday morning in the Paris show.
The Paris show, usually known for some ultra luxury and higher-end vehicles on display, was majorly ruled by eco-friendly family haulers like the EQ and the all-electric Volkswagen I.D this year round.
Mercedes unveiled that EQ will be a battery-electric vehicle using its own scalable electric vehicle platform. This means the automobile giant will be able to use the new chassis to make all kinds of electric cars in the future.
With a 24-inch TFT high definition widescreen display on its dashboard, it is an electronics laden car blending power and technology to give the user an ultimate experience.
Mercedes claimed that the EQ can do 310 miles (500 km) on a single battery recharge, and can go from 0 to 62 mph in under 5.0 seconds.
The car shows an interesting and exciting future for all-electric Mercedes models. But EQ will not be mass produced for now, and Mercedes will use this as a prototype to develop better technologies for commercial purposes.
