Owning a hypercar has always come with extreme maintenance costs, but one nearly untouched Mercedes-AMG One has taken that reality to another level after racking up a $44,100 service bill despite covering just 115 miles.
The ultra-rare AMG One, now heading to auction through RM Sotheby’s, recently underwent its first official “Service A” inspection along with a warranty extension through 2028. The invoice totaled €37,610, with most of the cost tied to labor required to maintain the car’s Formula 1-derived hybrid powertrain, according to Carscoops.
The numbers are staggering even by hypercar standards. Mercedes-AMG reportedly charged 80 hours of labor at €395 per hour, amounting to over $37,000 before parts were even added. Individual components carried equally eye-watering prices, including a €2,300 transmission oil filter, a €1,872 air filter, and even a €150 drain plug.
The service costs highlight the engineering complexity behind the AMG One, one of the most ambitious road cars ever built. Mercedes spent years adapting a 1.6-liter turbocharged Formula 1 engine for street use, overcoming challenges tied to emissions compliance, reliability, and drivability before finally launching the car in limited production.
Only 275 units of the AMG One were produced before production ended in late 2023, making it one of the rarest modern hypercars on the market. The example now up for sale is particularly distinctive thanks to its unique Reingrün green paint finish, a customization option that alone reportedly cost €27,500.
Beyond the striking exterior, the car combines exposed carbon fiber bodywork, magnesium wheels, and a heavily race-inspired interior trimmed with Nappa leather and green contrast stitching. It also includes bespoke accessories such as custom Sennheiser earbuds, racing harness installation tools, and center-lock wheel equipment.
Performance remains as extreme as the ownership costs. The AMG One produces a combined 1,049 horsepower through its hybrid drivetrain, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 219 mph. The car also set a production car lap record at the Nürburgring, cementing its place as one of the most technically advanced road-legal vehicles ever built.
While seven-figure hypercars are often treated more as collectible assets than daily drivers, the AMG One’s maintenance bill offers a reminder that Formula 1 technology remains brutally expensive, even when the car barely leaves the garage.
