The White House East Room, long associated with state ceremonies and diplomatic gatherings, hosted an unusual guest this week as First Lady Melania Trump introduced an American-made humanoid robot during a summit focused on artificial intelligence and child safety. The robot, named “Figure 3,” delivered a short speech, marking a rare moment where advanced robotics took center stage in a formal government setting.

The appearance took place during the second day of a two-day event under Trump’s “Fostering the Future Together” initiative, which brought together global first spouses and technology leaders to discuss the role of AI in education and child development. The event also featured participation from representatives of major technology firms, including Meta and OpenAI, with an emphasis on balancing innovation with safety, according to CNN.

“Figure 3,” developed by robotics company Figure, addressed the audience in a synthesized female voice, thanking the first lady for the invitation and describing its participation as part of a broader effort to empower children through technology.
