Do you know about the Bitcoin Pizza Guy? His real name is Laszlo Hanyecz, and he recently gave his very first televised interview ever since he became famous. Laszlo Hanyecz became famous because of how he used cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, during its early days.
Laszlo Hanyecz, also known as Bitcoin Pizza Guy, is a software engineer who was also an early investor in Bitcoin. He, just like the early adopters, believed that Bitcoin would eventually take over the conventional currency. Laszlo Hanyecz used Bitcoin for buying stuff as well. Back in 2010, he bought Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 BTC. It seemed like a good deal because the Bitcoin was not valued at even a single US penny. However, today, a single Bitcoin is worth about $8,000.
However, that is not where it stopped. According to Laszlo Hanyecz, he has spent about 100,000 Bitcoins on pizza over the years. That is what has been the reason for his fame and the nickname. He says he doesn’t regret what he has done. He is actually proud of being a backer of the currency during its early days and purchasing pizzas is simply a testament to what the cryptocurrency was actually invented to be used for.
As per Laszlo Hanyecz; it was buying pizza that allowed him to help with the legitimization of the cryptocurrency. Bitcoin not only had a very low value, but people were also unaware of what it really was back in 2010. Between 2010 and now, Bitcoin was able to take its worth to $20,000 per Bitcoin and is now standing at $8,000.
You can now purchase online using Bitcoin. May 22 has been dubbed as the Bitcoin Pizza Day by the cryptocurrency community to commemorate the day when the first transaction using Bitcoin was carried out. What do you think of Laszlo Hanyecz and his hunger for pizza? Should he have kept the Bitcoin or was he right in using them the way they were meant to be used? Do let us know!
