The field of robotics has advanced so much that life-like robots have started to appear from the labs. Scientists and researchers are bringing forward the next generation of robots that will look like humans and also have similar functions. This is quite fascinating, and the functions of these robots are a source of amazement for people as they see an artificially generated being functioning as a human.
Earlier, a similar robot, Sophia, had created a buzz and it was given the citizenship of Saudi Arabia. This time, the robot is named Grace that is from Hong Kong. The humanoid robot will be assisting in transforming the healthcare industry.
Grace will act as an assistant to the doctor. It will be able to take the temperature of the patient and pulse. This will be possible because the system inside has heat sensors and a camera to monitor the patient and surroundings. It is an android based device.
Grace will not only assist doctors but patients too, particularly the senior citizens. It has been educated in three languages, namely, English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. The robot is equipped with these languages so it can carry out socializing and talk therapy.
Hanson Robotics founder and CEO David Hanson state that robots like Grace are designed and brought to the field, not with the intention of replacing or taking the place of professionals. In fact, these robots tremendously aid the professionals in their work and that is the intention with which they are introduced.
Grace was introduced in the times of covid-19 when contactless treatment and telehealth solutions were at their peak. In fact, this is still the situation. According to a report by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), demand for these robots has increased tremendously after the advent of the pandemic and is likely to double in the next three years. according to Hanson Robots, Grace will be mass-produced by the end of 2021.
