Mazda’s New EREV Promises 800-mile Range, Charges 30%-80% In 15 Minutes

Mazda is making waves in the electric vehicle (EV) sector with its new release, the EZ-6 sedan. This advanced all-electric model boasts an impressive range of up to 600 km (373 miles) on the CLTC cycle, tackling one of the primary barriers to EV adoption: range anxiety.

The Mazda EZ-6’s range is powered by a 68.8 kWh battery and a 190 kW (254 hp) electric motor, which collectively enable the vehicle’s impressive all-electric range. For drivers seeking an even greater range, Mazda offers an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version. This variant combines a 93-hp gasoline engine with a 160 kW electric motor to achieve a total range of up to 1,301 km (808 miles), which provides flexibility for long-distance travel. According to CarNewsChina, the EZ-6 can also recharge from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes, adding a high-speed charging advantage to its portfolio.

In addition to range, Mazda has integrated luxurious features to enhance the driving experience in the EZ-6. The vehicle comes with a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster, and a 50-inch augmented reality heads-up display (AR-HUD) for a next-generation user interface. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset, the system manages climate control, seat adjustments, and entertainment functions seamlessly. The cabin experience is further enhanced by a 14-speaker Sony audio system, customizable 64-color ambient lighting, reclining front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and four-zone voice activation.

Mazda CEO Masahiro Moro stated that the EZ-6 reflects Mazda’s commitment to electrification and is aimed specifically at the Chinese market. Developed over three years, the EZ-6 represents a blend of Mazda’s design philosophy and technological advancements from its partnership with Changan Automobile.

While this model is Mazda’s “first global sedan,” it’s currently unlikely to reach the U.S. market, focusing instead on meeting the rising demand for sustainable vehicles in China.

Mazda’s launch of the EZ-6 aligns with broader EV trends focusing on improving range, efficiency, and user experience. Advances in battery technology, particularly the development of solid-state batteries, are driving significant progress in the industry, with other major players like Toyota, Hyundai, and General Motors also working to extend the range of their EVs.
