The host of Engineering Explained outlined the effects of using alcohol fuels using a study done by the Society of Automotive Engineers. It is one of the common questions among drivers around the globe, is Ethanol, E10, E15 or E85 bad for cars?
In this video, Jason Frenske, a mechanical engineer and the host of YouTube channel Engineering Explained, elaborated on this topic using a study done by Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). This research was supported by US Department of Energy and the US Army Mobility Equipment Research and Development Command. It looked upon the effects of ethanol, methanol, unleaded gasoline and alcohol fuels on engine internals such as cylinder liner, piston rings, cam lobes and valve guides.
Jason said in the video description, “They also looked at engine oil wear metal content, as well as sludge, varnish, and deposit formation in various engine locations. The results indicate the various effects of alcohol fuels on an engine.”
