According to a recent certification by the China Quality Certification Center, the iPhone 16 models are going to support up to 45W of fast wired charging through their USB-C ports. Compared to the maximum speeds of 27-29W for the iPhone 15 lineup, which never quite hit 30W, this is a considerable increase. The new certification, as spotted by ShrimpApplePro on X, revealed that all iPhone 16 models have been tested at 5-15 volts and 3 amps, meaning they can provide up to 45 watts of charging output.
This represents a 50% leap in charging speeds over the older models, which Apple claims will let users recharge their iPhones much faster. However, Apple has not said anything publicly about faster wired charging capabilities, which aligns with how they generally underplay these specifications. In reality, iPhones have supported well above 25W wired charging for many years now but Apple only bundles a 20W USB-C brick for fast charging.
Apple hasn’t said anything about wired charging, but they have shared information about their MagSafe technology, which, when combined with an appropriate power adapter, can now supply up to 25W of wireless power.
Preorders for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro opened on Friday, and the earliest delivery date is September 20. The devices were formally introduced on Monday. These new models have a number of additional features in addition to faster charging, such as larger displays on the Pro models, a new Camera Caption button, and a strong emphasis on what Apple refers to as “Apple Intelligence,” which is their next-generation AI integration designed to improve the user experience across all devices. With the faster charging capability, iPhone 16 users can expect more convenience and efficiency, making it one of the most advanced iPhones yet.
