The upcoming iPhone 16 series appears poised to shake up the conventional norms surrounding iPhone screen sizes, according to the latest leaks of iPhone 16 case dummies. Shared by Apple tipster Sonny Dickson and reported by PhoneArena, the images showcase all four speculated iPhone 16 models side-by-side, arranged by their perceived premium hierarchy.
The largest model, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, is supposedly set to have a 6.9-inch display, a slight increase from the last 6.7-inch screen. Similarly, the iPhone 16 Pro is also anticipated as per the rumors to see a bump in size, from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to maintain their sizes. Additionally, the dummies suggest a departure from the diagonal camera arrangement of the iPhone 15 series in favor of a vertical alignment for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
One plausible reason for this design shift could be related to spatial video capabilities. While the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max can capture spatial video, the base models cannot due to limitations in camera configuration. By reintroducing the vertical camera layout akin to the iPhone 12 series, Apple could potentially enable spatial video recording for a wider user base, possibly to bolster sales of its Apple Vision Pro headset.
However, it’s worth noting that dummy units, while indicative, may not always be entirely accurate. Nonetheless, these latest leaks align with previous ones, instilling a degree of confidence in the reported features and design changes of the iPhone 16 series.
Regarding camera upgrades, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are expected to retain their existing camera arrangements, while benefiting from increased screen sizes. The larger screens are speculated to facilitate an ultrawide camera enhancement for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, along with an optical zoom range boost for the latter.
Despite the excitement surrounding these leaks, it’s advisable to approach them with caution until official confirmation from Apple. Nonetheless, the consistent patterns across multiple leaks provide a compelling glimpse into what consumers might expect from the iPhone 16 lineup.
