Huawei boasts that its new model outperforms Tesla’s Model Y. According to a CNBC report, Huawei has provided further details on a new car that it says not only competes but also outperforms Tesla’s Model Y.
Huawei, the Chinese tech company, best known for its telecoms and smartphone devices, has stated that it would not manufacture automobiles on its own. However, it has collaborated with automakers on vehicle technologies such as autonomous driving.
The Aito M5, a car that runs on both electricity and petrol, will be the first to use Huawei’s HarmonyOS operating system, said Richard Yu, executive director and CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group the company’s product launch.
According to the company, deliveries will start from 20th of February 2022. The Aito M5’s post-subsidy pricing starts at 250,000 yuan ($39,063). That is less than Tesla’s Model Y, which begins at 280,752 yuan.
In addition, Yu stated that the Aito M5 had more peak power and range than the Model Y. However, unlike Tesla’s vehicles, the Aito M5 incorporates a gasoline tank to expand driving range when the battery runs out of juice.
”The Aito M5 is the first model under the Aito brand, which stands for “adding intelligence to auto.”
Yu leveraged the company’s reputation as a survivor during the launch ceremony. The introduction of the vehicle took up the last hour of a 2.5-hour event that also included the introduction of a foldable smartphone, a new laptop, and prescription smart glasses.
“Many rounds of sanctions of the past three years have plunged us into the longest winter because no winter is as long as three years,” he said. “In spite of the great difficulties, we have received strong support from consumers and partners across the globe.”
