What human would say no to superhuman strength? It is a dream for most and it has become a reality with Guardian GT. Researchers at Sarcos Robotics have created Guardian GT, a set of seven-foot robotic arms that can each lift 230 kg (500 lbs), giving whoever uses them, superhuman strength. And to ensure you can really experience this superhuman ability, the arms allow you to actually feel what’s going on.
These robotic arms have the ability to lift half a tonne when used together. The user using the arms feels a force of just 2 kgs while lifting a load 250 times of input. These arms have been designed to be parallel to that of an adult human to provide ease of operation and not giving out an alien appearance.
The initial plans for these arms to be used are for emptying disposable bins and performing other such tasks that involve moving heavy materials such as metal pipes. The arms are powered by a diesel motor capable of moving at 6 km/h for 7 hours.
Even though it feels like something out of a sci-fi movie including cyborgs. But that is not the case and with Guardian GT, the future of lifting heavy loads is here. This is also a breakthrough in the field of prosthetics and will open so many new avenues for research.
