A line which has been termed as the green line of death is appearing on iPhone X screens. It has already appeared on more than two dozen handsets and the owners are puzzled about what caused it. The owners had the $999 phone for just a few days before the line appeared.
The phones were functioning normally when first taken out of the box and this mysterious green line of death appeared out of nowhere. Apple has still not commented on the issue but it is suspected that it might be due to an electrical fault. The fault causes the green sub-pixels in the phones’ new diamond subpixel pattern to illuminate as reported by Tech Crunch.
The problem has been reported to have affected 25 customers as of now but the numbers are growing. All the people it affected claim that the line appeared out of nowhere and runs from the top to the bottom of the display. The phones have not been dropped or damaged by the customers and they claim the line just appeared during use.
The line does not go away by restarting or fully restoring the device. Doing that can cause it to pop up in a different spot but does not make it disappear.
“So I was playing with my new phone and all of a sudden, this happened,” said MacRumors forum member tmiles81. “It’s a really bright line going down the entire right side of the phone.”
The tweet that gave the name to the fault.
The issue has been seen on both the 64 GB and 256 GB devices in both Silver and Space Gray models. Apple has been replacing the affected devices for now but that is not a permanent solution. It will cause a major dent in their profits if they just keep on going replacing devices like this. We’ll have to wait and see what happens but can’t say anything for sure before an official statement from Apple is released.
