Is the most burning question of last year about to get an answer? Apparently yes, because Samsung has announced that it is finally going to reveal the results of a months-long investigation into why some of their Note 7 devices burst into flames while being charged last summer!

This event will be the second time the giant South Korean company will attempt to explain the reason behind the exploding flagship phone. During the first time, Samsung pinned the blame on one of its battery suppliers and tried to fix the problem by changing the batteries, but to no avail as the reports of the replaced phones catching fire continued to pile up.

“They really have to get it right this time given how their initial assessment turned out to be embarrassingly wrong,” said Bryan Ma, vice president of device research at IDC.

The event will be pivotal for the company’s future, as it looks to launch the next Galaxy 8 series in August. It will be live streamed on Samsung’s website and will attract close attention from the investors and devoted Samsung users worldwide.

Independent investigators who worked on the issue will present their findings on Monday. The company will also emphasize that they have taken adequate measures to ensure no repeat of the Note 7 debacle in the future.

“They have to reestablish credibility and trust,” said Ma, a technology expert. “I also hope that they put a more human touch on the messaging this time to show consumers that they really care.”

The recall of the Note 7 caused a massive crisis even in South Korea, the so-called “Republic of Samsung.” Hundreds of South Korea nationals filed a lawsuit against Samsung to compensate for the “psychological shock” of using a device that could burst into flames at any moment.

The crisis made the company a laughing-stock around the world and burned through Samsung’s profits in the third quarter of 2016.
