Kitty Hawk has been working on a number of different personal flight projects. Among these projects is a sporty single-seat multicopter machine known as the Flyer. The Silicon Valley company has released images and a video demonstrating the specifications in the final production design.
The Flyer has two pontoon floats, one on either side to encourage flying over water. The aircraft runs 10 electric fans without any prop guards. Each fan is around 1-m long and the fans are arranged across a hash-shaped airframe that measures 8 x 13 ft.
The flight time is not a lot and varies between 12 to 20 minutes depending on the weight of the pilot and the speed at which the Flyer is flow. Kitty Hawk is currently keeping things safe and has kept an altitude limit between 3 to 10 ft and a maximum speed of just 20 mph.
According to the company, it is very easy to handle and you can learn to fly it in less than an hour. You don’t even have to own a pilot’s license in order to fly it as an ultralight aircraft. You would just have to steer clear from the populated areas.
It is available to pre-order now but the price has not been made public and you can only order if you get an invitation. It’s not an invitation exactly as anyone can apply to get an invitation. The company also plans to make flights available as a leisure experience.
