Fisker is building an all-electric Popemobile for Pope Francis public appearances altering the Ocean SUV’s solar roof for a purpose-built all-glass cupola. It would be delivered to the Pope next year for his emission’s free travels.
The Ocean SUV is a tech romance between machine and planet and would come packing a range of 300 miles as notified by the company. The theme behind the vehicle is to do the least harm to the planet while providing for a comfortable electric vehicle ride.
It would be the first exhaust-free and emissions-free vehicle for the Pope which would be built by making exclusive modifications to the Ocean SUV.
Ocean SUV was unveiled last year and was claimed by the company as the world’s most sustainable vehicle. The vehicle offers a range of 250 to 300 miles supported by its 80-kWh battery pack. Most of the vehicle is built with vegan-friendly materials including its carpet made from plastic waste that came out of the ocean.
It is claimed as the most sustainable vehicle and has a full-length solar roof that brings along power for an extra 1,000 miles each year. Along with cutting on emissions using its electric powertrain, the Fisker Ocean SUV would be built with sustainable materials making it a complete package for performance and securing the planet side-by-side.
“I got inspired reading that Pope Francis is very considerate about the environment and the impact of climate change for future generations,” says Fisker co-founder Henrik Fisker. “The interior of the Fisker Ocean papal transport will contain a variety of sustainable materials, including carpets made from recycled plastic bottles from the ocean.”
All-electric vehicles have been used in the past to improve the eco-credentials of Vatican City. Earlier on, Pope Benedict XVI received a modified all-electric Kangoo Maxi Z.E built by Renault. Pope Francis previously received a Nissan Leaf in 2017 that also came in cutting the emissions part, however, this is the first vehicle for papal travel that is also good to go for the holy highness’s public appearances.
