All of us have been employing duct tape for minor repairs and there is a common joke as well that duct tape can be used to fix anything. However, today we bring a new product to you which, as per the claims, is about 100 times stronger than your average duct tape. Get ready for Fiberfix – a tape that is stronger than steel. The tape has been impregnated with a particular resin which, according to the manufacturers, ‘hardens like steel’.
The usage is quite simple enough; all you need to do is to soak a length of it in water and then wrap this wet length of fiberfix around the broken item that needs fixing. Once you’ve wrapped it, let it set. It will begin to harden in a matter of minutes and will set to its hard morphology in about ten minutes. It takes a total of 24 hours to cure completely. However, the setting time is considerably less and therefore you’ll have to work with it quickly. Once it has set, you may choose to paint it or sand it. Oh and it is completely waterproof afterwards.
Since it is next to impossible to remove it once the fiberfix has set, the manufacturers warn against getting it on places where you don’t want it; skin, clothes, tools etc. Surprisingly they’ve also mentioned not to use it to make arm casts. A company representative told us that this particular product is not the first of its type however, what sets this ‘instant fiberglass’ apart are its qualities which include; high tensile strength, impact resistance and waterproofing.
Other than its qualities the other major difference is the fact that this fiberfix comes in individual lengths, all of which must be employed once the seal has been opened otherwise the water vapor in the air might react with it rendering the remaining length useless. For a 1×40 inch length the price is $5.99 and for a 4×60 inch length the price is $9.99.
Although its uses might be limited when compared to the duct tape since getting it off would be a problem; the invention sure will come in handy where you need a ‘solid’ solution.
