Ferrari, an Italian sports car company, disliked the idea of manufacturing eco-conscious electric supercar initially. However, the company has recently revealed its plans to produce an SUV. CEO of the company appreciated the efforts done by Tesla and in a statement to Bloomberg said that “it is doable by all of us.” According to the CEO, the upcoming Ferrari SUV will revolutionize the utility vehicle industry. Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Ferrari, while addressing an audience in the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, said that Ferrari’s electric SUV will be available in the market before Tesla’s Roadster.
Tesla revealed its Roadster with a Semi-electric truck in November 2017. The vehicle will be manufactured on large scale by 2020. However, Ferrari claims that their car will be available before Tesla. Marchionne said, “If there is an electric supercar to be built, then Ferrari will be the first. People are amazed at what Tesla did with a supercar: I’m not trying to minimize what Elon did but I think it’s doable by all of us.”
Marchionne also questioned other big players of the automobile market who are investing billions in the electric vehicle production. According to him the business of selling an electric vehicle is only considered successful if you make the vehicles available on a large scale for more people. But, in auto shows, the declaration of electric car manufacturing is greater than the actual work that is being done on the cars.
