People don’t normally look at their hotels as the main attraction when they go on vacations. Some people are trying to change that as they think out of the box. One family in Scotland got their hands on a military helicopter and transformed it into an amazing hotel that you would never want to leave.
The family of farmers in Sterling, Scotland decided to venture into the hotel business and wanted to be unique. Martin Steadman and his wife made a unique purchase to put their unique plan into action.
They bought a decommissioned Royal Navy helicopter for $9,121 and spent an additional $52,120 to renovate their farm and to transport the helicopter.
It may seem like a steep price to pay but the idea was guaranteed to bring in guests.
In order to save additional expenditure, Martin handled the reconstruction himself and preserved some of the existing features of the military helicopter.
The pilots’ seats were replaced with cozy benches and a sliding door was added.
The body itself was used as the hotel’s living quarters and even has a kitchenette.
Martin read about the helicopters being decommissioned and got the idea from there. Wanting to preserve a piece of history, he formulated his plan.
Insulation was added to keep the interior warm so the hotel could keep on functioning in the cold months as well. It is a small settlement but can easily sleep two adults and four children.
It is not even that expensive and costs $225 for adults and $40 for kids. These are excellent rates for a helicopter hotel.
It is hard to believe that this amazing hotel was once a discarded military helicopter. Let us know if you would like to spend a night in the helicopter hotel in the comments.
