Finally! Facebook Is Testing A Dislike Button

Facebook Dislike Button

Remember when Zuckerberg said that Facebook would not introduce a dislike button because

“That’s not something that we think is good. We’re not going to build that, and I don’t think there needs to be a voting mechanism on Facebook about whether posts are good or bad. I don’t think that’s socially very valuable or good for the community to help people share the important moments in their lives.”

Well, maybe they won’t be sticking to the statement after all, at least not for the messenger.

Just one year ago, Facebook replaced the only ‘like’ option with a whole reaction tray, what was gladly accepted by most users but criticized by people who had asked for a dislike button. Geoff Teahan, the product designer director at Facebook, explained:

“People need a much higher degree of sophistication and richness in what choices we provide for their communications. Binary ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ doesn’t properly reflect how we react to the vast array of things we encounter in our real lives.”

Facebook is finally introducing the dislike button, a ‘thumbs down’ emoji, only on messenger, that too on a test basis for selected users. The company confirmed the plan saying,

“We’re always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message.”

For fear of spreading negativity, Facebook has not yet introduced the same button on Facebook and does not plan to do so. However, if the feedback from the dislike option on messenger comes out positive; the button will take a permanent place on the Facebook messenger. The messenger is all for quick communication, and a dislike button gives us just that.

If you are one of the selected users for the tests, let us know through your comments on how it feels to be using it.
